Myra Reid's Art Journey

It's never too late to pursue your dreams.

I am a self-taught artist who finds great joy in creative pursuits.  Proud to be an Appalachian woman, who was born and reared in Eastern Kentucky where I watched creativity abound in a culture rich with imagination and artistry.  North Carolina is where I reside now and this beautiful state will always have a special place in my heart because two of my loves were born here: a precious grandson and the love of painting.

My story is this:  I have two wonderful, amazing, adult sons.  One afternoon, when my sons were very young, I watched my babies in the afternoon light and I thought to myself, "I think I can draw you."  I had never had a drawing class or been trained in painting so I dismissed the idea.  My reasoning was; I must love these children so much that I think I can draw them.

Time passed, those little boys grew into men and one happy day my North Carolina grandson was born.  When he was about the same age as my own babies had been, the thought came back, "I think I can draw you."  But this time I picked up the pencils and then the brushes and I started to draw and paint.  I’ve painted my grandson, my beautiful granddaughter, my sons and daughter-in-love and the list goes on.  Each piece of my art is a testament to my life’s journey and it is a privilege to share my creations with the world.   Thank you for the opportunity to share my heart and art with you today.
